Rambus PCI Express PHY Passes Standard Compliance Testing

Silicon-proven IP achieves five entries on PCI-SIG

Los Altos, California, United States  - 06/02/2005   Rambus Inc. Nasdaq:RMBS, one of the world's premier technology licensing companies specializing in high-speed chip interfaces, today announced that its PCI Express* PHY intellectual property IP has achieved the necessary PCI Special Interest Group PCI-SIG compliance testing with five entries on the PCI-SIG Integrators list. This accomplishment makes Rambus's PCI Express PHYs the most widely compliance-tested PCI Express PHYs available today. The PCI-SIG is the special interest group that owns and manages PCI specifications as open industry standards. The PCI-SIG Integrators list includes all products that have successfully completed the rigorous testing procedures of the PCI-SIG Compliance Workshop.

"Appearing multiple times on the PCI-SIG Integrators list is a significant milestone to reach, as it demonstrates the versatility our PHYs have as they work in conjunction with our customers' platforms to ensure the highest level of compatibility," said Jean-Marc Patenaude, director of marketing for the Platform Solutions Group at Rambus. "Our customers rely on PHYs that work seamlessly with other components in a manner that allows them to get their products to market quickly."

Rambus PCI Express PHYs have passed PCI-SIG compliance and interoperability testing by Rambus digital controller partners such as Cadence Design Systems, Inc., Mentor Graphics Corporation and Zuken Inc., as well as Rambus's PCI Express SerDes IP customer PLX Technology Inc. The complete Rambus solution consists of the Rambus PCI Express PHY and the PCI Express Digital Controller IP acquired by Rambus from GDA Technologies, Inc. in April.

Rambus PCI Express PHYs are complete serial communication cells optimized for implementing the physical layer of the PCI Express standard. The silicon-proven serial interfaces feature point-to-point, full duplex signaling and support up to a 3.2Gbps data rate. Rambus has also demonstrated its Turbo PCI Express platform with serial links operating at 5.0Gbps and 6.25Gbps data rates to meet future PCI Express requirements.

The Rambus PCI Express PHY design is available on multiple foundry and captive processes at process nodes ranging from 180nm to 65nm. The PHYs are in production in high-volume applications such as PC graphics, chipsets, switch and bridge chips, and supported by a comprehensive suite of digital controllers and support services to provide chip developers with a complete system solution.
